augenschein Filmproduktion was founded in 2008 by Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo. Since then, augenschein has produced more than 30 feature films. The focus is on projects that achieve an international reach with a strong directorial handwriting and world-renowned acting stars, both in arthouse and mainstream cinema.
With 7500, written and directed by Patrick Vollrath and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, one of these projects has been successfully released in Germany by Universum and shortly thereafter in Austria by Filmladen. In June 2020, the film celebrated its global release on Amazon Prime and reached millions of viewers worldwide. In addition, the completed projects HOME starring Kathy Bates and directed by Franka Potente, as well as the science fiction film STOWAWAY starring Anna Kendrick and Toni Collette and directed by Joe Penna, were released in Germany in 2021.
augenschein Filmproduktion produced critically acclaimed, award winning, foreign-language auteur films including ANA, MON AMOUR (Călin Peter Netzer) which was awarded with a Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution at Berlinale 2017, HUNTING SEASON, the winner of the Venice Critics’ week 2017, MY HAPPY FAMILY (Nana & Simon), which had its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, LOS PERROS (Marcela Said) premiering in the Critics’ Week competition in Cannes and APPRENTICE (Boo Junfeng) selected for Un Certain Regard in Cannes. Another example is THE INNOCENT by Simon Jaquemet, which premiered in Toronto, and most recently, PATRICK by Gonçalo Waddington, which was shown in the competition of San Sebastián in 2019.
Currently underwater thriller DIVE directed by Maximilian Erlenwein is in post-production and the film ALL RUSSIANS LOVE BIRCH TREES, a novel adaptation by Pola Beck, is being screen in theaters all over Germany. In addition, the project BERLIN NOBODY, a co-production with Scott Free Productions, directed by Jordan Scott and starring Eric Bana, Sadie Sink and Sylvia Hoeks, has been successfully wrapped and is starting post-production. Further projects with directors such as Jan-Ole Gerster, David Lowery and Brian Kirk are already being planned.
