BERLIN NOBODY
Maximilian Erlenwein (*1975) already demonstrated a special flair for audience appeal with his highly acclaimed and multi-award-winning thriller debut SCHWERKRAFT (2009). He confirmed himself as an emerging voice of German genre cinema with the psychological thriller STEREO (2014), which premiered in the Panorama section of the Berlinale. Most recently, he demonstrated how ambition and entertainment can be combined with the Netflix production SKYLINES (2019). While studying directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb), Max worked as a cinematographer and shot reports and magazine features. Together with Robin von Hardenberg, he founded Fat Lady Filmproduktion in 2005, with which he realizes music videos, documentaries, image films and commercials.
American ex-pat and social psychologist Ben Monroe (Bana) relocates to Berlin to further his research on the epidemic of cult mentality. While he immerses himself in German cultism, his rebellious teenage daughter, Mazzy (Sink), becomes entwined with a mysterious and enigmatic local boy (Dassler).
The film is inspired by Nicholas Hogg’s 2015 novel Tokyo.
