FIRST LOOK: MOTHER MARY

Vanity Fair and A24 have released the first image from MOTHER MARY, directed by David Lowery and starring Anne Hathaway in the lead role.
The exclusive image, unveiled by Vanity Fair, features Hathaway as a pop star dressed in a striking golden leotard, a flowing cape, and a tiara. Reflecting on the challenges of the role, the Oscar® winner shared, “I can’t dance, and I can’t sing like a pop star.” However, she credits the director and crew for helping her overcome these hurdles, saying, “They made it so that I can.”
For MOTHER MARY, A24 has once again partnered with filmmaker David Lowery. The film stars Anne Hathaway (LES MISÉRABLES, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA) and Michaela Coel (I MAY DESTROY YOU). Written and directed by Lowery, the film is an epic pop melodrama that explores the relationship between fictional music icon Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway) and the legendary fashion designer Sam (Michaela Coel).
Cinematography is by the acclaimed Andrew Droz Palermo (THE GREEN KNIGHT) and Rina Yang. Production design was led by Francesca di Mottola, with German Film Award winner Cora Pratz (I’M YOUR MAN) serving as Supervising Art Director. Original songs were written and produced by Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX, with a score composed by Daniel Hart. Costumes were designed by Bin Daigler.
MOTHER MARY is produced by augenschein Filmproduktion in collaboration with U.S.-based Sailor Bear, A24, and Homebird Productions. A24 will handle worldwide distribution.
