ISLANDS Wraps Filming

In mid-November 2023, principal photography for Jan-Ole Gerster’s ISLANDS, starring Sam Riley, Stacy Martin, and Jack Farthing, officially wrapped. Filming took place from September to November on Fuerteventura.
What may seem like the dream of an endless summer has long turned into monotonous routine for former tennis pro Tom (Sam Riley). As tourists come and go in an endless stream, he spends his days hitting hundreds of balls over the net, filling the emptiness with fleeting affairs and alcohol. But everything changes when the mysterious Anne (Stacy Martin) arrives at the hotel. She, her husband Dave (Jack Farthing), and their seven-year-old son Anton (Dylan Torrell) don’t fit the mold of typical vacationers. Tom quickly grows close to the family, giving Anton tennis lessons and inviting them on an excursion to showcase the island’s rugged beauty. The next day, Dave vanishes without a trace. As mysterious as Dave’s disappearance is Anne’s strange behavior, leaving Tom puzzled and suspicious.
ISLANDS was directed by Jan-Ole Gerster (OH BOY, LARA), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Blaz Kutin and Lawrie Doran. The lead roles are played by Sam Riley (CRANKO, CONTROL) as Tom and Stacy Martin (THE BRUTALIST, NYMPHOMANIAC) as Anne, alongside Jack Farthing (THE RIOT CLUB, SPENCER) and rising star Dylan Torrell. Cinematography is by Juan Sarmiento G., with production design by German Film Award winner Cora Pratz (THE PEOPLE VS. FRITZ BAUER). Costume design is by Christian Röhrs (THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE), with sound recording by Stefan Soltau (BABYLON BERLIN).
ISLANDS is a production of augenschein Filmproduktion (Maximilian Leo, Jonas Katzenstein) in co-production with LEONINE Studios and Schiwago Film. The film was supported by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the German Federal Film Board (FFA), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM).
