THE WEIGHT
Padraic McKinley began his career in film under the mentorship of his uncle, acclaimed editor William M. Anderson (The Truman Show, Gallipoli, Tender Mercies, Dead Poets Society). Starting as a music editor, he went on to edit more than 16 feature films and over 200 episodes of television, establishing himself as a highly respected editor in the industry.
McKinley transitioned into directing and producing with DirecTV’s critically acclaimed series KINGDOM, where he served as co-executive producer and directed four episodes, including the series finale. He subsequently executive produced major international productions such as AMERICAN GODS (Fremantle Media/Starz), HUNTERS (Amazon Studios), and the Golden Globe-winning limited series THE LOUDEST VOICE starring Russell Crowe (Showtime). His work is defined by character-driven storytelling and a cinematic approach shaped by his background in editing.
THE WEIGHT is set in Oregon in 1933: After the death of his wife and his imprisonment in a labor camp, Samuel Murphy fights to regain custody of his daughter Penny. Under the control of the ruthless overseer Clancy, Murphy becomes involved in a risky gold smuggling operation. But in addition to the dangers of the wilderness, betrayal within his own ranks also threatens the undertaking.
